Well, two possibilities:

a) AI, while a useful construct, has been grossly oversold and needs far more time and effort to mature into useful transformational products; or

b) “Sure, Mr. Gates, you can sell your little operating system program for our computers, saves us the trouble.” “giggle, snicker: sucker!”

ML is great at searching in places we know where to search. It’s not anywhere mature enough to do the searching on its own.
