I was somewhat surprised to find out that my surname (which I had thought to be typically Ashkenazi-Jewish) is actually more common in Colombia and The Philippines than in the US. Though I’m not sure I would be related to many of these folks: like so many other descendants of immigrants, my family name was a “gift” from officials at Ellis Island.

My name is most common in the US, followed by England, and is spread throughout the empire. Belize has the highest number of Cobbs per capita!
