Clinton was impeached for lying under oath — not for the underlying non-crime of a consensual relationship with an adult woman. Trump’s attorneys have figured that as long as he doesn’t testify under oath, he’s free.

As to the Michael Cohen allegations, crime bosses don’t have to tell their underlings exactly what to do. Trump didn’t have to say explicitly: lie under oath. Michael knew that he was never supposed to contradict Trump’s statements.
