Obviously, vasectomy is another rational choice for a married couple. But if you’re referring to a single woman who is certain she doesn’t want children and is unable to get either an IUD or her tubes tied, it seems to me she might want to limit herself to dating men who already have vasectomies. Why commit time to a relationship with someone who wants such a fundamentally different life? Why risk the heartache?

A friend of mine went through just that kind of situation. She wanted children, he didn’t. They were both very unhappy, spent years trying to change each others minds, and eventually divorced. Just seems like a lot of years wasted in heartache.
