I could certainly see that about St. Paul (no offense to any Lizards here), but I’m not too familiar with St. Augustine’s background.

Was just reading a review of a book on the subject in the New Yorker…I had read in other sources that he believed that Adam, in his state of grace before the Fall, was able to raise and lower his penis just as he could and other limb of his body: it was the uncontrolled nature of sexual arousal that Augustine found sinful…and that, in a nutshell, is what is behind all the absurdities and pruderies of Christianity, from monastic abstinence and the cult of virginity to abstinence-only instruction in the schools…
