My favorite joke on this theme is ancient, so forgive me, all of you who have heard it:

Joe: OK, brother, glad we got that straight. So how’s Mom?

Jim: … Um … She’s on the roof.

Oh lord, now I’m remembering Jon Pertwee (Doctor #3) telling that joke at the Who-con cabaret shows in the 80’s. I’ve never heard anyone else do it better, in a vaguely Irish accent and his incomparable rubber-face expressions.
“Yer mother is up on the roof and she won’t come down…”
