David Anderson over at Balloon Juice has an interesting finding related to using high deductibles to force consumers to make better choices: Doctors, who are the one group with the most knowledge of the system, able to make informed choices of the type of care, were able to reduce their care only 20% compared to those less informed. 20% isn’t anywhere near enough to validate the idea that consumers can control health care prices through informed choices.
Especially since healthcare pricing is as clear as mud.
