Don’t forget though - most of us (myself included), thought there was absolutely no way in hell that Trump could win in 2016, yet here we are.

So I can’t discount Bernie not only becoming the Democratic nominee, but pulling off an upset victory and beating Trump in the November election. There’s a lot of outright fury against Trump out there, and if Bernie (or indeed, any Democratic POTUS nominee) can harness that wave of fury against Trump and the GOP, they can ride that all the way to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

And that is Bitcofer’s theory of negative partisanship. There isn’t a big bloc of moderate swing voters that Bernie will turn off; just Democratic voters energized to vote against Trump, regardless of the nominee.
