That reminds me: When I get closer to done with all the account-closing stemming from the shop’s change of ownership, I need to go after my driver’s license again, and get it upgraded to a Real ID. Right now, it won’t get me on a commercial flight or into some restricted sites. I renewed my passport for that purpose. My old NM driver’s license was not an acceptable from of ID to get a new NM driver’s license, if I wanted the one without the yellow stripe across the top saying ‘NOT FOR FEDERAL PURPOSES’.

I got mine changed to a Real ID when I went in to have the corrective lenses restriction taken off my license.

My mom went through that mess with the CA DMV. They wouldn’t use her old (still valid) California drivers’ license for proof of ID. And she couldn’t use her W-2 because they said it was a photocopy and not the original (which seems incredibly stupid since it’s not like most employers send out the old carbon copy versions). After 45 minutes of going around with them, she said “fuck it” because she already has TSA pre-check so she doesn’t need the Real ID for flying.

When I got mine done they wanted my SS card, my birth certificate and my vehicle registration. A lot of women get hung up because they’re more prone to change their last names when they get married, and if so need to show certified documents testifying to the official name change.
