Charter school plans don’t get anywhere in this state, nor do voucher programmes.

In rural areas of the state, such schools don’t exist. The rural school districts depend on property tax and state equalisation funds to survive. Charter schools and religious vouchers would severely diminish rural public schools, so any time a Republican suggests them, voters flood their phone lines with the threat of replacing them with a godless Democrat.

Here in Texas, the school can be the largest employer in a lot of rural areas.
