At the checkout I asked the cashier if there was some switch to turn the “music” off or at least lower the volume, and also how could she stand it all day, day in day out?

She shrugged and said “After a while I don’t even hear it. It’s just a bunch of noise.”

Yeah, but nothing is as bad as the 2+ months of constant, wall-to-wall Christmas music. A lot of stores don’t even observe the “midnight after Thanksgiving” rule anymore.
