No… neither side is happy with you unless you can be totally partisan and extreme. I can’t support gay rights, but at the same time have a strong desire to eliminate certain terrorists. I can’t support the lefts effort to extend more unemployment insurance, but at the same time have problems with certain other out of control spending. It’s unsettling when you have to deal with someone who you can never be sure of the position they will take from one issue to another. It’s easier for folks to deal with partisans, lock step is easier than leaning new steps. And certain strategies are blown to hell when you are a nonconformist. No, both parties rather have members that follow the script, the platform, don’t rock the boat, it’s easier to control those people in the long run.

And after all, control is the final goal of all government. Power is a drug, and it’s take followers to lord over, or else, it goes poof.

Or you can be a centrist like myself and tell both sides to go frak themselves. I’m fast approaching that apathetic stage, where I say “Go do whatever you want, just leave me out of it!”
