Vice President Mike Pence to make campaign stop in Carter Lake this week (Omaha World-Herald)

Carter Lake is an exclave of Iowa, surrounded on three sides by Omaha, Nebraska, and the fourth by the Missouri River. It was stranded on our side of the river when the river changed course, causing a huge series of court fights between Nebraska and Iowa.

Carter Lake has a population of 3,785.

The City of Carter Lake causes confusion to tourists who fly into Eppley Airfield (Omaha’s airport) and rent a car, because when they leave the airport property they are greeted by “Welcome to Iowa” signs on Abbot Road. Nebraska does not have a sign a few yards later saying “Welcome to Nebraska.”
