Surprisingly, I’ve never seen this done in real life. And I’ve spent some time around horses and livestock in my time.

I’ve watched my brother-in-law reshoe a Clydesdale to help a split hoof heal up. The horses are generally fairly tame about having a hoof worked on, but this gelding (who was about 6’ 3” at the shoulder) got a little figgity and my brother-in-law had to yell at him.
Ah, I do have a picture of him doing some shoe work.
