re: #307 J.S.

Ok. What you do is 1) first, you steal identities — specifically doctor identities OR you recruit “bad” doctors. 2) You scout out an impoverished inner city slum area. (you’re looking for poor people — hopefully drug addicts or alcoholics in need of drug/alcohol — but who also have a Medicare card.) 3) You set up an “office” — that’s your “clinic” — consisting of desk/table/telephone. 4) get a P.O drop box. That’s where the govt will be mailing in all your checks. 5) Get the drunks/addicts to drop by (you pay them 100 dollars per “visit” to drop by your “office.”) 6) Bill medicare. (and you’ll be rolling in dough…so long as the FBI doesn’t catch you…The latest FBI bust caught a group of Nigerians.)

So this doesn’t involve anyone getting a scooter. Avanti’s complaint sinks like the Titanic into the cold, icy water of reality.

A couple of points. First, this sounds more like Medicaid than Medicare fraud, given the population involved. A minor quibble. Second, there’s a damn good reason a lot of companies won’t ship to a P.O. box or other drop box - fraud is a huge risk in such cases, and I’m stunned to find out that the government hasn’t figured this out and will happily mail checks to such an address. It actually makes the idea of letting these clowns run an even larger portion of the medical system more terrifying than it already was.
