re: #340 Walter L. Newton

I know… happens all the time. I’m not sure of the mentality that has developed over weather events. It’s like it’s some sort of “extreme” sport. Really, I think all the hype that weather gets on channels like “The Weather Channel” and the reality shows about chasing storms and chasing tornados and chasing this and that, it’s all sort of turned a lot of people into some Pavlovian puppy, responding to every little inconvenience like the end of the world was coming.

We’ve elevated normal everyday incidences into code red ville.

I know. People will get dressed like they’re going to be exposed to subzero temperature for 12 hours to get from their car to the door of their store. Most modern inhabitants of the urban landscape overreact to cold events.

It is a bit of sport for some. I’ve gotten calls from my parents asking me “so, I heard you really got a lot of snow, you aunt so and so think you should move out of Denver, they get too much snow.” Then I’ll respond, “what snow?”
