I appreciate the Amish ethic that rejects technology wherever it is unnecessary: they see our main task in life as loving, helping and caring for each other. Anything that distracts us from those purposes is superficial and is to be shunned.
I am not as extreme as they are when it comes to technology, but I do think about whether the technologies I embrace and the things I purchase and use are at least to some extent conducive to those ends.
It isn’t the tools. It’s how you use them.
