This tweet is typical of the responses I’m seeing to articles about NK’s ‘charm offensive’ - “Stop saying nice things about her! They’re terrible!!”
lord this framing is ridiculous. Her family imprisons and tortures people (along with their extended families) in similar conditions as Nazi concentration camps.
But hey, she’s so glam! Omg she smiled! pic.twitter.com/tyAyQ9w4i9— Paul Szoldra (@PaulSzoldra) February 11, 2018
Here’s the thing, though - the only reason that NK is able to gain traction in SK at this point is because we’re failing the diplomacy game.
This Twitter thread explains it pretty well, and the comments really expose people’s unwillingness to look at it from South Korea’s POV.
1. Since people are being willfully obtuse in interpreting this tweet, I’m going to delete and spell out, slowly, why North Korean charm offensive is surprisingly successful. pic.twitter.com/io7hN1PuXw
