Navigator is solid, but must be used with some sophistication. Habitat didn’t used to score high on dollar distribution. That’s because their task involved the marshalling of volunteer labor rather than routing cash or services to the partner families. There is a wrong expectation that HFH gives away houses. They don’t—they sell simple houses and make long-term interest-free mortgages.

The local chapter started a home fixing program, for current homeowners in need of serious repairs. They require citizenship in the US from their applicants. Name should be changed to ‘Habitat for Citizenry’, at least locally.
