My family has been in what is now Texas since the 1700’s. The border jumped me, I didn’t jump it.

I used to work with a guy from New Mexico named Mendez. His family had been there basically forever. They got Spanish names from the Spanish when they took over, then when America took over, they suddenly became foreigners in the place they’d been since before any Europeans got here.
