Why do I get this lead in the bottom of my stomach feeling that this Country is headed for the pits?

I’m actually beginning to have some hope. The economy appears to be really improving and with it the President’s approval ratings. The electoral map looks very promising to me, and perhaps if the GOP is atavistic enough, the Democrats might retain control of the Senate and gain a significant number of seats in Congress.
