Would Slovak be very close to that?

My father spoke Slovak because he was first generation American and my grandfather was way more fluent in Slovak than English.

I can still remember my father speaking fairly well with the Russia woman right across the street from where I grew up. If I remember, my father said many of the region’s languages are similar enough to be able to basically communicate.

I certainly can’t understand Czech or Slovak (or spoken Polish). They’re related, but still very different.
