It was the Innocence Project that turned me, as well.

They were able to fully exonerate almost 3% of the people on death row. Proved, to a scientific certainty, that they hadn’t done what they’d been convicted of.

There’s probably a similar number of innocents still on the row who they can’t help — the Innocence Project criteria for what cases they’ll work on includes that the conviction was based substantially on biological evidence, and that such evidence has been preserved well enough to be suitable for testing by laboratory methods that didn’t exist at the time of the original trial.

The only way to be absolutely certain to never execute an innocent… is to never execute anybody.

May sound naive but for me, it was the movie The Green Mile. Knowing an innocent could be executed disturbed the hell out of me. I get the emotional reasons for supporting it but it’s purely emotional not legal.
