Honestly, as far as Trump ditching the GOP debate, I can’t really fault him as far as publicity goes. He could just sit there watching the debate, ripping on the other candidates and the format at his event and it would still get more rating than the actual debate.

He gets to be the focus without even showing up. He can snipe from the sidelines, and then complain when the debate mentions him or his absence (and the candidates that are there do the same) that he’s not there to address them personally.

It’s all win win for him. His supporters don’t care what he does at this point. He could admit to being a serial killer and they’d still support him (especially if they were all liberal victims).

It’s also mind boggling that he’s even in this position given that statements/actions he’s made would have completely destroyed any other person in his position. The racism/misogyny/xenophobia gets a pass - or worse - increases his polling/standing among GOPers who vote.
