Got together with the family on Sunday. Sister is a teacher, and I’m pretty sure sister-in-law is a closet Trump supporter (who’s worked for the feds for over 20 years).

While everybody was complaining how the current school safety situation was deplorable, overtime I brought up banning AR-15s and other assault weapons, I was told to change the subject, or that it can’t be done.

Absolutely amazing. My brother-in-law, while far from a slobbering right winger, unconsciously kept parroting Marco Rubio: too many guns out there to do anything; or the ol’ “If we ban that one, this other gun can be modified like the former, so therefore do nothing.”

It’s incredible how even people like my sis, who is horrified by every idiot GOP proposal, just shuts down when it comes to banning weapons. At one point, she mentioned some schools either proposed having or actually have a bucket of tennis balls for the kids to chuck at a potential gunman.

Yet when I propose reinstating the Assault Weapon Ban, I’m the one who’s nuts. Un-fucking-believable.
