What I’m learning from all this is that pretending to be civilized (i.e., W Bush) really does make a difference vs. deliberately chosen barbarism (i.e., tr*mp).

I don’t think GWB was pretending honestly. Don’t get me wrong. I think he was a bad president who deserves his scorn there but I don’t doubt for a second that he was appaled by racial bigotry.
