For whatever reason, the dollar is for the most part a lot stronger than it was a year ago (other than versus the yen).

Whether that can remain, is a very good question.

The dollar is strong because of the fear around the world. That, and other currencies suck too. Europe is facing bigger woes than we are (although Obama is doing his best to get us with as big an entitlement and regulatory burden as the EU).

If this crisis forces the Asian economies to abandon their export focus (and their dollar subsidies to aid their export growth) then Asian currencies will become the standard. Till that happens, the dollar is still it.
