Would Clinton have won TN without Gore tho? Clinton was the last national Dem that was competitive throughout the South. Obama was in parts and in fact more successful in some areas.

Clinton was a Southern Democrat, and the first one nominated since Carter. Like Carter in 1976, he carried a whole lot of the South in both 1992 and 1996. I’m not sure how much of a factor being a Southern Democrat is anymore, but we also haven’t seen one since Gore in 2000 (and I’m not sure how many people really considered him a Southern Democrat). Basically, not sure if it’s a correlation or causation thing.
