Then why does the Constitution make provisions for doing exactly that? Like it or not, Pence was also elected, and by law he’s the replacement if Trump should go. Pence at least would have some idea of how stuff works.

Our democratic process was damaged during the campaign and the election. We can’t go back and fix that damage, but we can sure fix one result of the damage. Trump is an embarrassment, and he will damage our standing in the world for decades if he is not removed from office soon.

The Constitution is not particularly democratic. Yes, about a third of the potential damage was already done before Inauguration Day. I think Trump’s potential damage will be more outrageous and, perversely, more correctable than Pence’s.
