Yeah, except the writers probably were going off memory, which is why you get some weird things like Jesus being sat on a donkey and her colt in the triumphal entry in Matthew 21:7, which is supposed to be a riff on Zechariah 9:9:

Rejoice greatly, Daughter Zion!
Shout, Daughter Jerusalem!
See, your king comes to you,
righteous and victorious,
lowly and riding on a donkey,
on a colt, the foal of a donkey.

There are many other examples as well.
