I think you’re over complicating the matter. These fans just want to be entertained and they think the players playing the game are expendable for their jollies hence why Trump has mocked player safety efforts and why they see them as dumb jocks.

Sports are seen as a place where American Virtues are to be celebrated, and some people are very picky about how they see those virtues celebrated…political protest is not part of what they find acceptable.
