As someone who has been in the satellite broadcast industry for over 2 decades, i’ll just tell you that the cost to FOX to put up just one of their channels per month exceeds $150,000 for the satellite space alone. Multiply that by about 10 times per FOX owned channel. Why? They have to put it up in standard definition on one satellite transponder (channel), High Def on another, another to cover South America, another to cover Europe, the middle east, north Africa, the pacific rim ,, etc etc ,,, PER CHANNEL

Thats not even counting the extra sat space they have to purchase for special events (sports) and guests on shows from out of town, out of the country

Ad doesn’t begin to cover it, coupled with paying talent, staff, studio, broadcast rights, etc etc
