I’m sure you’re familiar with the Sapir/Whorf hypothesis. I can’t seem to find it right away, but I remember reading about Benjamin Lee Whorf hypothesizing that about the way the Mohawk language “forces” its speakers to perceive the world—like the “timeless” Hopi. It was a more innocent time.//
The German words for “guilt” and “debt” are the same (Schuld), which really goes a log way toward explaining their attitudes about money and finance.
