That’s Jackie Robinson. And his number, 42, has been retired from all of US professional baseball since April 15, 1997. The 50th anniversary of him making his major league debut.
And, since 2009, on every April 15th, every player and umpire wears 42 as their uniform number with their names removed from their jerseys.
