We got Trump because people were fed up with politicians and politics as usual. They wanted the Anti-Politician, the ultimate outsider who could get away with things that no career politician could think of. The GOP made a deal with the devil in taking him on, but they needed his hard core of support

But that all would not have been possible without a very different media landscape than we had in the 70’s.

I was just trying to say that it is endlessly optimistic to think that Trump is going wreck the GOP brand for more than one election cycle.

But Trump is hurting the GOP brand by being just like you said. He has squatted on their party and made them show how terrible they are as politicians. He has helped make those inner-party divisions even more divided and I think that will hurt the party for some time.

But as we are discussing, it is all such a mess, it is hard to predict the next couple election cycles.

That is unless something big happens in the world that brings people down to earth and we get back to a real need for good politics.
