There is only one sub-group of Trump supporters whose views I can at least understand even though I do not agree; those who are convinced that the entire US social/economic/political system is about to collapse and that electing Trump will expedite the inevitable so we can hit bottom and start working on recovering.
And this is not just a view of far-right religious people. My opponent in the last election ran partially on βdo you want an atheist in your local government.β There are no Evangelicals in my town as far as I am aware; the majority are Lutherans with a smaller group of Catholics and a couple Quakers.
One vote would have forced a βdraw by lotsβ situation and two votes would have denied the neo-Nazi the seat. He goes to the Lutheran Church here in town faithfully. While I cannot be sure, I suspect religion was put in front of political position for at least a few voters.
