I agree. High school students who get patents, or write books while at school, get to keep money maid from that. So should athletes.

I still think we pay far too much attention to sports, and athletes, as opposed to actual education, though.

Obdi - at least some student athletes are not there for the education. And you know what? That’s OK with me. A college education is NOT for everyone. It’s a nice dream, but some folk don’t need/want it. Some of those athletes are playing college sports for the purpose of trying out for the pros, and nothing more. If they get an offer from the pros, they’re leaving college. They need the money to support themselves and in some cases, their families - parents, siblings, etc. The school benefits when it has top-notch players. And the players should be paid for their efforts. It won’t keep them in college longer, necessarily. But it’s a farce to say that all the players are there for the education, and it’s time to put it to rest.
