I blame the parents

The Older Boy was homeschooled, because we and the school system couldn’t figure out what a classroom for him would look like. The District admitted they didn’t have anything that would really fit him.

His Girlfriend was also homeschooled, because her parents are the ‘angry Christian conservative’ sort. Her exposure to popular culture was very limited.

This means that she’s often been at a disadvantage in conversations with our family, because we tend to speak in lines from movies, Monty Python, etc.

Poor thing. She gets a blank look, and when we say, “It’s from Blazing Saddles”, she says, “I’ve never seen it.”

“YOU’VE NEVER SEEN BLAZING SADDLES?!?!!”
