The biggest lie the religious right tells though is you can’t pray in public school. No, Engel says you can’t force prayer in school which is a good thing. I’m no longer religious but even I know that prayer is meant to be personal between an individual and their deity or deities. I certainly did pray when my Nana died when I was in high school. But I wouldn’t have wanted it forced on my classmates either.

I wonder how many Southern Baptists would be on-board if a majority Catholic area forced a daily Angelus or Rosary on them? They’d be clamouring for the Separation of Church and State just as loudly as they are trying to tear it down now.

That separation not only protects the government from pernicious encroachment of religion, it prevents the government from squashing religious freedom of Churches. The best protection for a religion from the depredations of government is that wall of separation.

Baptists forget it was their own who first argued for it, back when the Bill of Rights was being mooted. Baptists were exiled, jailed, and killed for their beliefs in Congregationalist New England.
