Mass casualties reported. This didn’t occur at a school. It was at a business park. So, no, bullet proof backpacks, see through backpacks, or security guards at the gates of a school wont stop this violence.

But making it harder for people to get guns might reduce gun violence; it reduces it everywhere else in the world. Only in the US do we accept mass casualty incidents like this as routine, or not even blink when the death toll is under 10 at this point. We’ve become immune to the casualties when we have mass shootings unless they’re sufficiently high enough.

No amount of casualties seems high enough to get the GOP to act, not even when their own members get shot and nearly die from gun violence (Scalise) or when another member is nearly assassinated in another mass shooting (Giffords).

When the kids with the bulletproof backpacks grow up, they’ll wear bulletproof vests to work. Reducing the number of guns in the hands of crazies does not appear to be an option.
