A Belleville police spokesman now says an incident where a white student was beaten by teen black assailants on a bus “may not be racially motivated.”

I have to agree with using caution in calling a crime race or hate related. (Of course most crimes are hate based but that is another topic). When I was in high school (early 80s) we had two girls get into fisticuffs in the cafeteria line. One happened to be white and the other happened tobe black but the fight had nothing to do with race and everything to do with pushing the the cafeteria line.

The incident was handled by the school administration as a normal fight between students but when a local paper decided it was too juicy a story to pass up spinning it and we had all sorts of idiots driving into town to start race riots. The students stuck together and mercifully the idiots left town without a fight.
