I can’t agree that Breivik is “insane.” He appears to be highly intelligent, highly organized, and very effective at achieving his goals — not disordered or impulsive or any of the other characteristics of insanity.

Someone like him is much more frightening than a madman.

Therein lies the most frightening part of Breivik- his orderliness and ordinariness.

Insanity can manifest itself in many ways, in anybody. Recall John Nash (A Beautiful Mind), Mengele the physician or even Che, the great liberator and ‘friend of the people’.

All these were examples of highly organized people who uised their various talents to do some very bad things.
