I, sadly, know many women who have been raped. I can’t think of any of the cases where a gun would have helped. Really, not a one. I have never known a woman that was approached by an assailant who gave sufficient warning of his intentions. I mean, maybe, if they’d had all the luck in the world.

I am sorry if this triggers for anyone or makes them sad, but my friend J was grabbed from behind by her hair and had her head smacked into the wall. That was the initial assault. How is a gun supposed to help her after that?

What annoys me about these smug gun-fetishists is that they’re preaching shit that will put women in more danger. Carrying around a gun and thinking that it protects you can give a sense of false confidence. And, of course, the real root of the prevalence of rape in our society is just our patriarchal values that social conservatives fight so hard to defend.
