Clinton was a Southern Democrat, and the first one nominated since Carter. Like Carter in 1976, he carried a whole lot of the South in both 1992 and 1996. I’m not sure how much of a factor being a Southern Democrat is anymore, but we also haven’t seen one since Gore in 2000 (and I’m not sure how many people really considered him a Southern Democrat). Basically, not sure if it’s a correlation or causation thing.

Yeah that’s true. TBH I think the SW is the future of the party. I’m not a huge Sinema fan in Arizona but her win over McSally was very impressive.
