Some of this new and pervasive despair is because we didn’t think, didn’t plan, weren’t supposed to have to be doing this now.

We as a country, as a world, were past it.
Smarter
Enlightened
We’d moved on

Well as a nation we aren’t.
The work is not done and it’s worse than we thought.
We’re surely not as far along as we thought we were.

We don’t want to be doing this
And this new road is harder than the last one was.
Harder than the one we were supposed to be on by now.
And its gotten several magnitudes worse in the last 2 years
Some because they masterfully play to the refs.
Some because they are the refs.
And some just plain dumb luck or timing.

It won’t be sustained.
We will come through.
Because the truth will out and “The arc of the moral universe is long, AND it bends toward justice”.

To get there we now have to slog through this filth.
For however long it takes.
To ensure that the arc does bend.

I can still feel despair, disappointment, and not give up. Not for anything.

The primary goal in an emergency is to ‘emerge’
It’s time to accept that things are they way they are.
Accept what has happened, what we’re into and in for.

Regain control. Regroup. React.
