So with it being Autism Awareness month. I find myself looking at the two camps that exist in the community. Those who want a cure and more research into Autism and those who resist any research at all since they see it as a threat. Honestly, while I do think some parents of autistic children do try to portray Autism as some kind of curse or burden for them and their children, I favor more research for a couple of simple reasons. One, I think it will do us a lot of good to understand how autism works and why it happens. Secondly, and this goes with reason one but more understanding will perhaps make life a little more bearable for us on the spectrum and people will see people with Autism not as freaks but as people. I am not huge on Autism Speaks from what I know about that group but I don’t like the other side of the coin that acts like research and a cure would be a terrible thing either.A facebook friend posted this yesterday.
