The more I look at that photo, by the way, the more I’m thinking that the guy holding the knife did the stabbing.

He’s holding it in his left hand. The position of the wound on the Israeli marine is about where a low, left-handed stab would end up. Up and under the defensive gesture of the victim’s hands, the left one of which is also bleeding.

The knife is not being held at the ready, but it would take a fraction of a second for the attacker to flip it into fight-mode.

Reuters’s photo is larger and clearer than the one from Hrriyet - for the parts that are shown. I wonder what we would see on that knife if we had a full-scale enlargement to look at.

Blood, perhaps?
