“Relations with Russia” sounds like it could be a good thing on the surface, but dig a little deeper and you will see what it really means to the active participants.

Every country should act in its self-interest because it has to take care of its people. You ally yourself with countries that will benefit you. This doesn’t mean you get more money or security or whatever. It can be allying with a poor country to help them improve their way of life, which gives you a partner for the future.

With Putin and the oligarchs in charge, I see almost nothing of benefit right now in cooperating with Russia.
