Trump lawyers say there must be legislative purpose to get tax returns. This is bad lawyering. Any first-year law student can come up with possible bills that would benefit from seeing Trump’s returns
they’re going about this the wrong way and they’re gonna lose
no ‘purpose’ or ‘intent’ is necessary for two reasons.
- while the 1924 black letter law is plain as day (shall furnish on request), it gets worse
- guess who ‘owns’ all filed tax returns. Yup, they are government documents. as such can not be denied to congress for review under their oversight powers.
