re: #348 LudwigVanQuixote

LVQ - this is a highly technical subject, one which most people will not be prepared to delve into. And of course, this is also why the “skeptics” latch onto these things, as they know that there will be few people in the audience who will have the knowledge to correct them.

Your specialty of nonlinear system dynamics itself has a bit of a personality disorder - mathematics? physics? engineering? Compared to everyday subjects with which most people deal it is very esoteric.

In my opinion (and that is all it is), until someone is comfortable with the idea of “equilibrium” and what that means in any given physical setting, that person won’t have a good feel for what is meant by a “tipping point” or any other highly abstract subject related to your area.

This is one of the root problems with the Culture Wars… there are bridges to be crossed that may never be… different people are living (practically, in daily life) in different worlds. Your world is one of Academia, and even a pretty heady corner of that world to boot.

This is not to imply that I don’t appreciate the effort you put forward here to defend your (and the consensus) conclusions about AGW.
